The 2020 seminar is a one-day, intense experience giving students "An Inside Look" at being a Doctor. Through a unique combination of lectures, hands-on activities and guest speakers, students have the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the world of medicine. Each seminar is instructed by a staff physician.
This program teaches students how doctors think on a day-to-day basis. It also vividly illustrates what a life in medicine might be like--not just from an objective point of view, but from a more comprehensive perspective. Students are encouraged to think about how the career might affect them as a person, taking into account personal sacrifices, finances, relationships, lifestyle and much more.
The course is not designed to convince anyone to enter any one profession. Rather, it is structured to deliver the essential experiences and information you need to make the career choice that's right for you.
Seminars are geared toward highly-motivated high school and college students. To be eligible, students must currently be a junior/senior in high school or enrolled as a college student.
The 2020 seminar will be held Friday, May 22nd from 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Registration fee is $20, which covers lunch, parking and supplies. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the hospital.
Seminars are limited in size and class positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may submit their application and registration fee online. The RTS Career Center will then e-mail students and parents a link to permission forms which must be filled out and signed electronically. Registration is not complete until these forms are submitted. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. Course fees are non-refundable once a student has been formally accepted and registered. Once a seminar is filled, students may be placed on a waiting list for the following year, in the order in which their materials were received.
